When You Come

Tolias Yannis
2011

translated by Nikoleta Poulakida

When you come
I will stifle the lights and the hours
leave only a mauve aura
illuminating your eyes
I will look at you stone-still
bleeding jasmine and summer

You won’t speak
Our glass brimming
with an infirm memory’s aroma
us drinking from it endlessly
to the glory of corruption

When you leave
I plead with you
do not give me back my eyesight.
