What have I to do with this ungodly crowd
That won' t back off my short life
Or was it I who abandoned my neighbours
I who betrayed them with inexplicable staying power
When did I close the windows when did I draw the curtains
Or was it they who "shut me out of the world"
On the ludicrous pretext that I gave them a rough time
That I kept peeping at them from behind curtains
As their flower pots blossomed on the verandas
As their sheets flapped in the sun
From a sleep not mine
From a death unknown to me - alien
