translated by Despina L. Crist, Robert L. Crist
to E.G.TH.
On the naked shoulder
of the Aygust moon.
There the ocean found us
by platted sea-greens on high rocks
breaking the shadows of the clouds
with diktamo and mint.
There, at summer's end, they came upon us
searching the neighborhoods
of beauteous slumbering maidens,
the seed of our love.
With lip rouge of vermillion
you trace a great circle on the waves
betwixt Amorgos and Anafi.
And, on the hillside of the Monastery
of the Prophet, I -love-
sketch life
with the chalk of poesy.
