Eve and the snake

Melani ston ouranisko
2015

translated by the poet

I liked her skin
smelling of sun and blackberry
I’ ve had enough of the apple’s taste
I offered it to her
I wanted to feel her belly
crawling on earth
along with mine

said the snake

and Eve

it was like the days when
I lived Elsewhere
before I acquired my two legs
it’s voice was a challenge
I always liked sibilants liquid
I was after immortality, what a lie
I had been bored with it ages ago
