Eighteen haiku

Ioseph Harry
2014

1.
Haiku is my name
I am a little poem
On beauty and joy

2.
Serious teacher
I left my homework at home
It's Monday morning

3.
The day grandma Kate
Received her certificate
There wasn't much debate

4.
I hear the sirens
In my dream of Ulysses
Out in the high seas

5.
"Brunch" said the menu
Eggs Benedict was my choice
Late morning sunshine

6.
Summer afternoon
Permanent is your absence
Bouganville flowers

7.
Bright morning sunshine
Tired eyelids, aching body
Your scent still lingers

8.
Pines over water
The house harbouring our love
Had wooden ceilings

9.
Long musical note
As I walk the island streets
"Loner" with guitar

10.
Middle of the night
The songs I shared with you
Green pathless grove

11.
Balcony of stars
Reminiscent of summers
Zenith of our lives

12.
Oxford and Cambridge
Theory of everything
Years of sclerosis

13.
Yesterday's full moon
Brought shadows in our garden
Silver olive trees

14.
Stand-up comedy
Always had a tragic twist
Now time for a tear

15.
She kept the earrings
Museum of innocence
Bosporus currents

16.
It's too bright
Red sunshine filtering through foliage
Behold the Sunset

17.
Crosses and flowers
Pleiades in the deep sea
Brown rusty anchor

18.
First raindrops falling
Greyish sea in the distance
Quiet village life
